Jon Getz
For Town Council
Dedicated to ensuring Penfield remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Jon Getz is a seasoned attorney and respected leader in the legal community, with over three decades of experience representing individuals, small businesses, and first responders—including those impacted by the events of September 11th. His career has earned him numerous accolades and appointments to federal and state public policy boards, as well as a role as a federal court mediator.

Born on a Marine Corps base in North Carolina, Jon relocated to Western New York after the loss of his father and has since made Rochester his home for more than 30 years. A graduate of the University of Rochester, he has deep ties to the region and remains actively involved in both legal and civic life.

Jon has held prominent leadership positions, including serving as past president of the Monroe County Bar Association and currently as Vice President of the New York State Bar Association for the Seventh Judicial District. He has also contributed to legal education as a professor at SUNY Brockport and as Director of the Innocence and Justice Project at SUNY Buffalo Law School.

Beyond his legal work, Jon has been deeply engaged in community activities. He coached youth soccer for 15 years and served as president of the Penfield Strikers Soccer Club. He continues to mentor first-generation college students and participates in committees at the University of Rochester.

Living in East Penfield with his wife Julie, where they raised their two daughters, Jon remains committed to public service. He believes Penfield’s rapid development demands a fresh look at local legislation and calls for greater transparency, community dialogue, and improved traffic safety. With his extensive background in law and policy, Jon is ready to bring thoughtful leadership to the Town Council.
